The study of God’s word is very important to us in our walk with God. We understand that much of the world today does not have a proper grasp on the word, and that is simply not appropriate for a follower of God. Colossians 1:9-10 lays out to us a reason why it is so critical for the modern day Christian to understand the word of God for themselves. Paul is encouraging the Colossians brothers and sisters to “…be filled with the knowledge of His will…” and the reason for that is “…so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord…”. Our study of God’s word will always correlate with our obedience to Him.

The Berean brothers even went so far as to question a man of God. Acts 17:10-11 suggests that these men were “noble-minded” because they studied the word of God on a daily basis to make sure that what Paul was saying was actually God’s words. Too many people in today’s day and age just listen to the guy speaking in the pulpit and don’t study God’s words for themselves. Even men who claim to be of God, and have a smooth tongue might be deceiving you. This is why it is so important to us to study God’s word together, and for ourselves.

At the Blooming Grove Church of Christ we encourage questioning and we encourage deep Biblical studies. We are here to make sure that each one of us makes it to heaven, so it is crucially important that we learn to study God’s word appropriately.
